The qualifications to become a professional Community/Medical Interpreter are:
* Be at least 18 years old
* Have a high school diploma or equivalent
* Hold a language proficiency certificate*
* Hold a certificate of medical interpreter training of at least 40 hours
*Before registering for this course, we suggest taking the oral proficiency exam by computer, OPIc, at www.languagetesting.com.
Choose Form 4 to achieve a minimum score of Advanced Mid in your non-native language.
Not sure which language to test? Where did you go to high school?
In the United States? Your language other than English needs to be tested.
In another country? Your English language skills need to be tested.
